Club Activities Update – August 2020

What a great busy month of tennis we have had, and there’s more to come:

Club Competition

Latest LTA guidance means we can now plan Club competitions for adults, bearing safety in mind. Singles and mixed doubles will start soon and run through until mid-October. Women’s and men’s doubles may run in their entirety on one day each. Details are being sent out, (men sign up by August 14, please) thanks to Emma and Ashley (and remotely to our Captain Phil, who will be away working during this time).

More competitive tennis

The Middlesex LTA region has requested entries from clubs for their winter doubles leagues starting this autumn – we will be entering FIVE men’s teams, FOUR women’s teams, three mixed teams and veterans too.

New members – do let us know if you want to be considered for these league team competitions; our captains will also seek you out but stepping forward will help! Matches in the winter are teams of four and will commence at 7.00 pm

And talking of Middlesex competition, our first men’s team reached the final of the 2019/2020 Middlesex Cup – postponed because of Covid, it will now be held at Conway from 1pm on Sunday 13 September. Come and support the team and see some great tennis!

Safe social doubles play

Don’t forget every Wednesday 7pm-10pm and Saturday 10am to 1pm – great fun for a very mixed range of abilities. Turn up and mix in.

And news for new women members in particular – two women’s sessions are planned to take over the club on August 27 and September 03, 7.00pm-9.00pm – almost 20 have already signed up. A ladies’ Whatsapp group has been formed by Maria – contact her to to be included in it. If those dates become booked out, she’ll (probably) arrange more!

More facilities opening up

We are extending the use of the floodlit courts (Courts 1 to 3) from 8pm until 10pm weekdays now – adding another 30 hours of playing time each week. Because the clubhouse remains closed, except when coaches are around for access to the washrooms and water, the committee is working on a system to ensure the floodlights will be available for those times.

The bar is open!

Well, from Wednesdays through to Fridays, 8pm to 10pm – at least for now. Drink orders will be brought to you outside the clubhouse by our resident barman, Kieran. A brilliant opportunity to mix (safely) with other members.
