Coronavirus – Club Update

Coronavirus Update

19 October 2020

The government’s Tier 2 (High) Restrictions in response to Covid-19 are now in effect across London.

The LTA have issued a useful summary of what this means for tennis: the good news is that competitions, social play and coaching remain actively permitted.

Essentially the key difference to our previous update is that spectating is not allowed, except for one parent for juniors. To see the summary graphic visit this link.

LTA and Government Updated Guidance on Coronavirus

14 September, 2020

This week’s changes in the law and in the LTA’s guidance for tennis clubs means that we have to adopt the following practices:

Club Social Play, as opposed to informal social play, permits groups to play of larger than six people, providing they respect covid-secure guidelines cited by the LTA (please go to this link to remind yourself of those guidelines) – so our Conway social play on Wednesdays at 7pm-10pm and Saturdays 10am to 1pm will continue.

However, we must stay within the law, so from Wednesday 16th September, if you come for social play you must now book online on arrival at the club – access the club’s booking sheet as normal, select the ‘Weds Social’ Tab, and enter your full name. This will also meet the upcoming law where it will be “a mandatory requirement to have a system to collect NHS Test and Trace data, and keep this for 21 days.”

There will be a limit of 24 players in total – 12 players on courts 1 to 3, and a maximum of 12 players waiting to play. Those waiting to play must split into two groups of six outside the clubhouse, at either end (the patio at one end, the grass section at the other). Please do not mingle on the pathway or mix in any groups larger than six people, and please remember the basics – stay 2 metres apart, wash hands for 20 seconds, use sanitisers.

If you turn up and there are already 24 players booked in, regretfully you will not be able to participate in social play nor stay for a drink – sorry, but we must stay within the guidance. You can always check the “weds social play” tab before you leave home, to see how many people are already at the club.

Club Bar

We will endeavour to keep the bar open with a take-away service from 7pm until 10.15pm, Wednesdays to Fridays. A maximum of 12 people – two groups of six at either end – will be permitted. We are sorry, but we cannot open the clubhouse to more people and remain covid-secure. If this becomes impossible to maintain, then we will have to close the bar in order to remain within the law.

Our club singles and mixed doubles tournaments are well under way, and the women’s and men’s doubles days are booked in for 3rd and 4th October, and will be organised with covid security in mind, with restricted entry.

We’re endeavouring to keep as much tennis play and club activities as active as possible in these difficult times – thank you for your participation and your patience!
