Big Lunch Day

Dear Conway Member

As you may already know, Sunday 5 June is national Big Lunch day.

The Big Lunch is an idea from the Eden Project. The idea is that people join their neighbours for lunch – just for fun and a sense of community. The event can run from a few neighbours meeting up in a garden to a street party with food, music and decoration. Since starting in 2009, thousands of Big Lunches have taken place in all kinds of communities across the UK and around a million people get involved each year.

Last year, a few residents initiated the first Big Lunch in Conway Recreation Ground. It apparently went well, and local people (not exclusively Conway Road!) are again invited to meet for a picnic in the Rec. People will start gathering from around 15.30 (a Late Lunch!), to allow space in the day for other activities. We’ll open the Clubhouse facilities to guests and any bar takings will be shared between the Club and the Conway Rec Friends Group, who are working to improve the pond and park environment for the enjoyment of all.

Come and join in – bring something to eat, sit in the park, inspect the new plantings, check out the moorhen chicks, watch a bit of tennis (junior match from 2pm), meet a few neighbours. Hope to see you.
